UAE launch Business Continuity Management Standard
Thursday, 03 January 2013 11:12

In December 2012, the UAE became the first Arab region to launch a business continuity standard.

Mohammad Khalfan Al Rimaithi, General Manager of the National Emergency and Crisis Management, indicated the important role business continuity management plays in ensuring continuity of critical functions in the event of a disruption and effective recovery afterwards. He said this standard would maintain and promote stability as it would help both public and private sector organisations identify their key services and the threats to these, so they could plan and exercise their plans to minimise the potential impact of a disruption.

The first business continuity management standard was drafted in the UK in 2006, when it grappled with a series of crises and disasters, which promoted the creation of systems to ensure organisations could continue operating throughout an emergency. Al Rumaithi said the UAE's standard was set after consulting the British standards and considering the nature of the UAE's activities and services.
